Lis publishes 5 entries in Grove Dictionary of American Music

Music Department Head David Reynolds shared a new publication by Professor Anthony Lis.  Lis published five entries in the recently released 2nd edition of the Grove Dictionary of American Music.  His entries were on the Blue Sky Boys, Lani McIntire, Lefty Fizzell, the Louvin Brothers and Roy Acuff.

“The Grove Dictionary of American Music is the most important biographical resource on American music,” Reynolds said. “Lis’ entries speak well to his credibility as a scholar, and add to the reputation of our department and our college.”

“I particularly enjoyed reading your entry on Roy Acuff.  I heard him sing Great Speckled Bird live in the late 60’s at an Opry show in the old Ryman.” Reynolds said.  “I also remember my grandma buying me an official Roy Acuff yo-yo on the sidewalk after the show.  Wish I still had it.”
