Dean and audience

Dean Dennis Papini welcomed honored guests to the College of Arts & Sciences recognition of the first J.P. Hendrickson Faculty Scholar and presentation of the Herbert Cheever Jr. Liberal Arts Lecture.

The award and lecture are named in honor of two former Arts & Sciences professors and administrators. Professor John Phillip Hendrickson was a long-time faculty member and Head of the Department of Political Science from 1957 to 1988. Herbert Cheever Jr. served as a professor in Political Science from 1968 until his retirement 32 years later in 2000.  He also served as department head for nine of those years, as acting dean of the College of Arts & Sciences for two years and dean from 1992 to 2000.
