SDNA Young Journalist of the Year

carrie&charley 2 Carrie Moore, 2011, was named the Young Journalist of the Year at the South Dakota Newspaper Association Convention in April. She is pictured with her boss and SDNA President, Charley Najacht, also a Jackrabbit.

After graduating from SDSU in 2011 with a degree in news-editorial journalism, she began working at the Custer County Chronicle in Custer. She is social media coordinator for the Chronicle and compositor for its sister newspaper, the Hill City Prevailer News.

Since the Chronicle is a small weekly, she does “a little bit of everything” but is primarily responsible for school-related news and city events. She created a “Fashion Police” feature that reviews fashion at the high school prom and during the Sturgis motorcycle rally.

In the summer, she is the “fire reporter.” She keeps up-to-date on forest fires in the area, updates the paper’s social media and website, and goes to the scene to take photos.
