The Collegian helped Strasburg solidify career choice

Agricultural journalism alumnae Arin Strasburg ’99 created her own successful career in the agriculture industry as a graphic designer. She said experience at South Dakota State University provided a p19-Strasburg,-Arin-(4c300)strong background and foundation for success.

Academically, one of Strasburg’s favorite classes required students to develop a comprehensive marketing plan for a business of their choice. This project motivated her to pursue a career in marketing and promotions. Outside of class, her involvement with The Collegian helped her gain experience to add to her resume and further solidify her career decision. According to Strasburg, her involvement with The Collegian put her a step ahead of other graduates because she had relevant firsthand experience.

Strasburg now owns her own graphic design company, Designs by Arin, which is located in Iowa City, Iowa, and specializes in print design. Her company focuses on designing advertisements, catalogs and other media for cattle breeders and agriculture companies.

She enjoys her career because the clients she works with are true friends. Strasburg’s personal relationship with customers offers a unique inspiration, while at the same time providing her with a better understanding of how to market the customer’s brand. This close connection allows her to be fully aware of the small details that make a big difference for her clients.

Outside of meeting her customer’s demands, Strasburg takes time for individuals in the industry. “Arin’s talent is impressive, but it’s her heart and drive that makes her a true icon in our industry. She not only has my friendship, but a lifelong respect,” said James Sullivan, director of product development at Sullivan Supply Inc.

By merging her passion for agriculture and graphic design, Strasburg found a career that has made working easy. She enjoys being able to have casual meetings and candid conversations with her clientele.

In Strasburg’s work, the value of a handshake is everything and makes her career worthwhile.

“Arin is a great mentor who always goes above and beyond to make the work she is doing the highest quality and the people whom she works with feel good. Helpful, sincere and talented are just a few words that can be used to describe Arin,” said Luke Bolin, Pulse manager.
